The importance of having the right people, agenda, process and location by Michael Boozer of Boozer & Associates
Boozer&Associates, Inc. is a non-industry specific performance improvement company located in Atlanta, GA specializing in leadership development, and building teamwork and innovation. Michael Boozer, founder and president, has worked with organizations ranging in size from 25 employees to Fortune 500 companies in the areas of change management and building workforce engagement. As a part of the process, we facilitate meetings to get to the results our client need. Whether it is a meeting to get the Sr. Staff focused and aligned; a project team meeting; a strategic planning conference; or a meeting to bring about change in the organization, there are four things that we believe are critical to the success of the meeting. 1. The “right people” – are all the right people at the meeting? . . . stakeholders, decision makers, and people who will be affected by the change or outcome. 2. The “right agenda” – have you defined exactly what needs to be accomplished, what are the “sacred cows”, what things will not be discussed, what things will be discussed who will be the presenters, do you have a qualified facilitator, and what are the end results you are looking for? 3. The “right process” – how will disputes be handled ( dispute resolution ), what process will be used for problem solving, do you have the budget and time constraints you need, what will be the facilitator’s role, what will be the benchmarks and how will follow-up be handled? and last, but very importantly. . . 4. The “right location” – will the location be conducive to creative thinking and problem solving, will it be free from the normal business interruptions, and can the facility handle your needs? We strongly recommend to our clients that use offsite facilities. Key things to look for in an offsite facility are:
We believe that Forrest Hills Resort and Conference Center meets all the requirements we have for an offsite facility. Located in the north Georgia mountains, they understand the importance of privacy, and willingly offer their expertise in the planning process. They have a cafeteria with great meals and can accommodate special dietary needs. There is ample room for outdoor activities and a relaxed casual atmosphere in all meeting rooms conducive to success. We highly recommend this facility be considered in your planning process. |
