Just 15 minutes from the resort, The Etowah River offers paddlers challenging rapids, great scenery, good fishing, & a short portage around the 10 foot drop of spectacular Etowah Falls.  Mountain Laurel and Rhododendrons grace the banks of this small, fast-moving stream.  Previous experience suggested to fully enjoy the shoals on this moderately challenging trip. Best in spring & early summer, when the water levels are higher & wildflowers are in bloom.
